John and Edward Grimes are the two members of an X Factor boy band that was as big of a hit on the show as 1 Direction, competitors which followed them in a later season. Jedward’s international success spans from Europe, including their home country of Ireland, all the way to Asia, and is now beginning to hit North America. This  X Factor boy band came to  Gordon Cowie Films looking to shoot four different music videos.  They bravely decided to fly all the way from the UK to the U.S. in order to shoot fresh looking videos that were different from all the other videos currently being produced in Europe. The first video they decide to get started on was their self-titled album single “Ferocious.” The Jedward twins told us they wanted to make a video that showed their fans that they are more than just a boy band, but rather two talented artists with a tough side. The song, which marks a distinct departure from their previous work, encourages their fans to be bold in moving towards their dreams and to overcome all the nay sayers and hurdles who stand in the way of their success. This important message inspired John and Edward to give actress and longtime friend Tara Reid a call and ask her if she wanted to be part of the project. Tara has quite publicly seen her fair share of controversy while dealing with people saying negative things about her. Connected to the message of perseverance that Ferocious contains, she felt that the video was a perfect fit for her and agreed to be featured.

X Factor Boy Band

Gordon Cowie Films came together with the X factor boys and decided that we wanted the video to be about about a group of friends who were being threatened by a rival gang member. This mysterious antagonist put their lives at risk by burning their hangout down and then going after their friend Tara Reid. What results is a call to action: the boys must find Tara and rescue her before it’s too late.

Ferocious

The rest of the casting for Ferocious was done in Phoenix Arizona since our main location was there. The desert state was chosen as our primary location because of an abandoned dog track that is located just 40 minutes north of Phoenix. Being that the dog track looked like a film set built for a gang, with it being abandoned for the last 15 years and now decorated with Graffiti, we knew it would be perfect. The other locations we used were in Los Angeles Californias drainage channels that have been used to shoot numerous blockbuster movies, such as the Terminator, and Out of Time and Tara’s scenes were all shot in an apartment building on Hollywood Blvd.

Even though the locations were six hours apart from each other Jedward and us decided this location was well worth the drive. It’s not everyday you find a set like this, especially if you are not paying a huge studio to produce it.

Jedward

The main performance scenes were filmed in a dark room with a white paper back drop. The only light we used were two sets of Phillips Hue Lights that you can have synched up to our song ferocious with color’s and flash.

Seattle Music Video Company

As part of the expansion of our Seattle music video company, we will now be filming music videos in the Pacific Northwest, including Seattle, Bellingham, and Vancouver. Becoming a Seattle music video director was an easy choice because the city constantly produces iconic musicians; Jimi Hendrix, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Sound Garden, and Foo Fighters all hail from Seattle. We are choosing to expand to more areas of the United States with the intention of offering high quality music video production to the entire country and, eventually, to the whole world. We consider ourselves some of the best music video directors in the world, and we want to share that skill with everyone. There is a need for video producer jobs all over the globe and we hope to fulfill that need. Being based out of LA, we get contacted from all over the globe, and most people are concerned that we won’t travel to them because we are not based in that city. We are more than willing to travel to all over the globe to fulfill our music producer career aspirations.

Seattle Music Video Director

Besides expanding to become a Seattle Music Video Director, we have other exciting news. In our last article, we announced that we had purchased the new RED Epic 8K camera. In addition to that purchase, we also just bought the Ronin Steadicam. For anyone who is not familiar with a Steadicam, a Steadicam is a mounting system for film cameras that allows consistent filming while moving. This will allow us to create extraordinarily dynamic shots. The top music video directors in the world are known for using this device. Generally we outsource this skill, which can add anything from an additional $600-$2000 in costs per video, but now we are able to handle it in-house and pass the savings on to you. The device is a descendant of the steadicam–a heavier piece of machinery created during the filming of the horror movie “The Shining”. The crew needed something to allow the camera to follow the young boy as he rode his tricycle around the house, and developed this tool to create interesting, fluid tracking shots.
